Samsung Intrepid
The Samsung Intrepid™ is the first ever smart phone with Windows Mobile 6.5. Though in its simplistic plastic design, it is fully equipped with instant messaging and organizational features.
Its ergonomic design is less flashy and more utilitarian. It looks like the Ace or the Jack from the same company. With 4.6” by 2.59” by 0.51” dimensions, the Intrepid is relatively thinner but broader. The edges are a little more rounded. The physical keys, instead of ovals, are now rectangular.
There’s nothing exceptional about the QWERTY buttons. They are somewhat plasticky to touch. This is only minor but worth considering. The good point is that the keys are large enough to prevent mistyping.
The broader design is actually advantageous. Samsung Intrepid™ is able to house a larger screen, compared with competitors like the Blackberry Tour. The display is 2.55”, with 320 by 240 pixel resolution. The screen’s resolution might not be as high as the Blackberry’s. However, quick apps launching is possible because Intrepid is touch-screen capable.
It is also the first phone with Windows Mobile Professional 6.5. Since people usually deal with Microsoft documents, Samsung Intrepid™ is best for the job. Microsoft office applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint are readily accessible anytime, anywhere. You can surf online too, with Internet Explorer Mobile.
Other basic features include a large capacity phone book. As your personal assistant, Intrepid has an alarm clock, task alarm, world clock, stopwatch, calculator and currency converter. It is of course GPS enabled and internet ready. It also has a 3-megapixel camera.
Behind the high performance of Samsung Intrepid™ is its hardware. It has a 528 MHZ processor, 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. You can connect to this device via Wi-Fi and Micro USB. You can also use Bluetooth in syncing or connecting wireless devices.
